To be eligible for VAT relief, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You have a disability, long-term illness, or are terminally ill.
  • You’re buying for personal use.
  • Even if someone else buys for you, they won’t pay VAT if you qualify.

Definition of Disability or Long-Term Illness for VAT Purposes:

You are considered to have a disability or long-term illness for VAT purposes if you meet any of the following conditions:

  • Physical or Mental Impairment: You have a physical or mental impairment that has a long-term and substantial adverse effect on your ability to carry out everyday activities.
  • Recognized Medical Condition: You have a condition that the medical profession recognizes as a long-term illness, such as diabetes or heart disease.
  • Terminal Illness: You are terminally ill.
